I'll have what she's having!!
It's love at first sight.
Someone has posted a picture of their newest creation or purchase on Instagram, Pattern Review or their Blog. You love it. You want it and you have to have that garment in your wardrobe!!
Beware there is a trap here!!
The Pattern/Garment works for that person because:
•the fabric is the right choice for the Pattern
•the colours or the print suit the maker/wearer
•the pattern is flattering for the maker's/wearer's body
Colour, Bodyshape, Style Recipe, Height, Body proportions, Lifestyle
These factors must be considered if the next garment you make, will be your TNT (tried and true pattern) or a purchased garment you love to wear because it makes you feel and look great!!
It's make or break.
Sewing is an expensive and time consuming experience if the garments you make aren't worn by you.
Check out the person who is wearing the clothes. If their body shape, colouring, style recipe, height, body proportions and lifestyle are similar to yours...
Go for broke!! Make that pattern up and wear it.
If the model looks like you buy it and walk the Runway with Confidence!
I remember receiving some clothing items from a friend. The dress was a dark floral and was quite shapeless. There was also a pair of black court shoes with some shiny gold accents on the front half of the shoe. I was thankful for the new additions to my wardrobe. Recycling clothes is something I believe in. Cut to the chase. I didn't feel like me in them. The shoes were uncomfortable and classic. I felt swamped in the dress. These clothes needed to go to the right person who would look good in them.
Are you wearing clothes that would look better on someone else?
Are you making clothes that would look better on another body shape or a taller person?
Is your pattern/fabric combination choice letting you down?
Be inspired but think carefully before spending money on more choices that aren't quite right for you.
We all have wardrobes with clothes in them. Some are "memade" some purchased. Imagine a wardrobe full of clothes you love wearing, that flatter your body and express your personality!
