What to do when you finally have time to Sew

What to do when you finally have time to Sew

Dishes are done, the house is clean, shopping up to date, caught up with friends, now finally it's time to sew!

I'll hazard a guess that you don't feel like doing any sewing at all.

Scrolling through Pinterest Instagram browsing through fabric stores etc ...

Looking for inspiration can sadly make your "allocated sewing time" .... Evaporate!

I was thrilled to finish this dress. It had been cut out waiting to be sewn for over a year! Pre-cutting projects doesn’t necessarily mean faster sewing for me

And then you get back on the "merry go round of life" hoping for your next opportunity to sew.

This may be a bit shocking for you to realise that this can be on repeat and you may never have realised that this is what is actually happening every time you are ready to sew ... and you aren't upset about it because when it comes time to sew it's overwhelming just trying to find out what you should do first.

We are very talented at purchasing fabric and patterns. We buy patterns when we see the ones we want because if we don't, we miss out on the right size and the fabric we love. The sentence "Sorry there's none left!" is heartbreaking.

So we have the Patterns we love and the Fabric we adore (hopefully working together) and are ready to start.

We want success because our tender heart, time and money are on the line. We don't want to make the wrong choice …we don't want to start the next step. Will this next step take us closer to Failure or Fabulous? It's darn nerve-racking!

But good time management is our best friend.

Giving yourself deadlines (even pretend deadlines work) ... gets you moving in a direction at least.

• Where are you going?

Ball, Gym, Reunion, Family gathering, restaurant, art gallery, job interview?

• What will the Weather be?

Hot, cold, inside, outside, summer, winter?

• What garment do I want to make?

Pants, dress, top, jacket, evening gown?

• How are you travelling?

Public Transport, Taxi, driving, walking?

• Who will I meet?

New friends, old friends, family, school friends, never met before, kids teachers?

• Why am I going?

Catching up, striking up a new friendship, watching a show, to celebrate a birthday?

• When am I going?

Do I have a short time frame or a long time frame to find Fabric and Pattern that will meet the criteria

Off to the Pattern Stash....

• Pull out the pattern type you think will be the most appropriate ... Get quite a few in a pile

When sorting through my patterns I was inspired to put these 2 patterns together!

Now Shop your Stash

• Go through the Fabrics that will suit your pattern choices.

Put patterns and fabric in a pile and grab the ones you most favour.

Look at the amount of fabric you need and have ...

this should narrow down your choice!

Look at What you have left

Look at the time frame to make your garment again ...

This will reduce your choices again

Look at What you have left

Get a cup of coffee or tea ..

Go back and see what grabs you

You should have your decision made now

Cut it out

Sew it up

And

Wear it!

I better follow my own advice and trot off to do some sewing now ... we all are in the same Tribe
